First Annual Basketball Coaches Showcase

The First Annual Basketball Coaches Showcase presented by Lebanon Citizens National Bank (LCNB) was all that it was promised to be: a full day of great youth to interscholastic basketball to kick off the 2009-2010 season. An audience of over 1,100 watched teams from Little Miami, Loveland, Reading, and Clermont-Northeastern slug it out in tournament level basketball under the bright lights at Little Miami High School on Saturday November 28, 2009.

The real winners from this event were the Kevin C. Barnhill Memorial Scholarship and Community Outreach Fund, the Ohio Athletic Association's “Kids that Care” campaign, and the more than eighty 4th through 6th grade ballplayers that enjoyed their first action on a high school basketball sized court. Plenty of fun was had by all as Cincinnati Reds mascot “Gapper” entertained the crowd throughout the event. Net income will go to support the community outreach initiatives of the Kevin C. Barnhill Memorial Fund.

We'd like to thank all those that were in attendance as well as the many event sponsors and hope everyone will join us again next year for the 2nd Annual Kevin C. Barnhill Basketball Coaches Showcase. Stay tuned for more details!!!

Cincinnati
Bengals Hoops Challenge

On March 28, 2008, the Cincinnati Bengals brought their traveling basketball squad to Little Miami High School to take on the Warren County All-Stars. Over 900 young fans in attendance left with smiles on their faces and a multitude of autographs as the two competing teams lit up the night with an amazing display of dunks, behind the back passes, and 3-point shots. Bengals players participating in the event included Chris Henry, Antonio Chatman, Glenn Holt, and Eric Ball. A surprise guest, former Bengal and NFL Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz, served as honorary coach for the Warren County All-Stars, which were led by past Bengals stars David Fulcher, Jim Breech, and Joe Kelly as well as former area high school basketball standouts Craig Nagel, James Cripe, Kevin Schappell, Danny McKeehan, Trent Ingram, Jillian Partin, and Jessica Carmack. All former and current Bengals signed autographs at half-time so that everyone had the opportunity to meet with the players most only get to see on television.

As a result of this event, over $4,000 was raised for the benefit of the Kevin C. Barnhill Memorial Scholarship and Community Outreach Fund, with monies raised going to support the construction of the Kevin C. Barnhill Championship Baseball Field at Testerman Park. Many thanks go to the sponsors and volunteers who contributed to the successful conduct of this event!

Family Day at Great American Ball Park

The past three summers, the Cincinnati Reds and the Kevin C. Barnhill Memorial Scholarship and Community Outreach Fund have hosted an annual Family Day at Great American Ball Park. The First Annual Family Day was held on July 29, 2007, with the Reds taking on their Central Division rivals, the Chicago Cubs. Prior to the game, Maineville Elementary student and Warren County Little League baseball player Jake Gevedon threw out the first pitch ... a perfect strike caught by Kevin's father Bill Barnhill. The Second Annual Family Day was held on July 20, 2008, in which the Reds battled the New York Mets on a sweltering, 90-degree summer day. Prior to the game, a parade was held on the field of Great American Ball Park for all knothole and Little League baseball players in attendance. The Third Annual Family Day was took place on June 7, 2009 as the Reds again played their long-time rivals, the Chicago Cubs -- losing a tight extra-inning contest.

Over $2,500 has been raised for the Kevin C. Barnhill Championship Field Initiative at Testerman Park these past three years as a result of these events. The Barnhill family would like to thank all who have attended the Family Day games to help make this annual fundraising event for the Championship Field a success. A special thank you to all those who have been able to attend all three years. Please check back in early 2010 for information on the Fourth Annual event.
